The new year is almost here, and I've got a lot to do before the year comes. TankOS progress goes well, and I estimate it should be available before January 7th, 2015. Given the current state of development standards for TankOS, it's being a bit long in terms of updates. I'm a little better about coding standards than Nota is and how I used to be, so the code quality is a bit less buggy and a lot more reliable (Especially with the drop of VSHost, which means no more native memory leaking). The update includes a chat server (Which is just integrated by the grace of a third party who doesn't even require network coding to work with), a massively improved console system (Input is finally allowed with clearing your CMD every 2 seconds) & less crashes/error messages being thrown about. Goodbye for now,
--Regards, Tankinstein. No, TankOS is not dead. There's a point in every developer's life where (s)he begins to get smarter and better at what they do. While I may not be super intelligent, TankOS has gotten to the point where it's downright difficult to work on with how much I've implemented. VStudios has to load every form each time I compile the program, and I have to QA test it myself. I expect the newest version of TankOS will be released in early 2015. Maybe even earlier, depending on how the chat servers & the console go. Maybe I'll even add a friend system to the chat servers if they become "robust" enough! Until then, I offer you my kind regards. Sincerely,
--Tankinstein. Well. I've fixed the login system. Oh, and TankOS no longer uses VSHost. No more memory leaks! Omg!
Oh gosh. Remember that old ugly thing? Well, I'm rewriting the code for it. It's gonna be called "TankOS CMD," from now on, too. This one is going to have you input a command, meaning that it will no longer stop working if you type more than one thing, as well as it will now record your commands for your visibility.
Jesus. We're back..AGAIN. The new version of TankOS is around the corner. This one has been taking forever, but I've finally managed to stop all crashes that I've known about, as well as implement a proper chat SERVER. The chat server is run off my home system, but all users will be able to connect.
Before I release the new version, I want to properly implement it. As of current, it doesn't tell you when somebody connects and it crashes when it sends a message (But the message sends!) This Jeez, we're like Valve...except..not a billionth as rich, cool or amazing. So, I recently installed Linux Mint 17 (Cinnamon, of course) onto my home PC. I didn't uninstall Windows 7, but I've been mainly getting used to the feel of Linux Mint. I've tried to use Mono Develop, but TankOS and NotaOS both are projects WAY too advanced for it to handle, unfortunately. I'll still try to get an update soon, but I can't promise anything.
'Ey. 'Sup? I'm Tank. I have some great news too! In this next update, we're going to make things prettier and fix more stuff!
Although good news has to be weighed to neutrality by bad news. TankOS had some seriously bad compiling issues along with NotaOS, which means we have to rewrite the whole thing and add each form one by one. I'm gonna try and do it quickly, but it may take a bit. I'm also gonna fix some small memory leak issues so that TankOS closes when you want it to close. It's about time to take a long break for me. I've been working on TankOS for well over 9 months now, changing and fixing a bunch of stuff, but after a while, programming one thing gets very monotonous. For now I'm putting my time into a game called "Turunkanoonkanoo". This game has no website, but a google search will probably do you good. Fear not, however - TankOS and notaOS will most definitely return after a while.. Unless I die.
--Tank This update was absolutely chalked FULL of updates.. Which is why one of the updates didn't make it through. Our UDP/TCP packet sniffer didn't manage to make it in this update, it was just too darn buggy for me to put up. Still, this release adds a few things. Custom user quick opens, improved error handling, media player with video, main GUI video player and a TankOS chat server. As always,
